Republican Party of Texas Chairman’s Statement on Congressman Pete Olson’s Retirement

HOUSTON, TX – Today, Congressman Pete Olson announced that he will retire following the conclusion of the 116th Congress after having served Texas’ 22nd Congressional District since 2009. Before entering politics, he was a Naval Aviator where he served for nine years. In 1998, he joined Senator Phil Gramm’s staff and upon Gramm’s retirement, he served as Chief of Staff for Senator John Cornyn.

Republican Party of Texas Chairman James Dickey commented:

“We are thankful to Congressman Olson for his service to our nation both in the Navy and in Congress. His efforts to strengthen our national security, build upon our booming economy, and fight for better opportunities which have improved the lives of all Texans. We wish him and his family all the best.

“As we move to 2020, we look forward to fighting to keep this seat in Republican hands and working with the Republican nominee who will pick up where Congressman Olson leaves off to fight for a better future for all.”
