WHEREAS, the Republican Party has historically been a party of conservative principles, one which advocates for policies that are based on the Judeo-Christian worldview, and Godly and righteous standards; and
WHEREAS, God’s blessings as a result of that fidelity to His precepts and principles have historically undergirded the effectual preservation of our liberty and freedom; and
WHEREAS, the definition, function, and nature of conservatism is to conserve – which is to say – to preserve and to maintain, to safeguard from adulteration, and to avert the degradation of the original standard, and to protect the historical precedent; and
WHEREAS, in decades past, comity and civility existed in the discourse between Republican and Democrat lawmakers, and the practice of extending chairmanships of certain committees to the other party served to promote this bipartisan goodwill and civility; and
WHEREAS, such civility has progressively eroded over the years as conservative principles have remained steadfast, and the Left has moved further and further leftward towards socialism, secular humanism, and Marxist state control, including the degradation of morality and promotion of Godlessness; and
WHEREAS, the delegates to the 2022 Republican Party of Texas State Convention overwhelmingly passed eight legislative priorities, the fifth of which reads “to ensure all legislative priorities are given a fair opportunity to become law, the Republican-controlled Texas legislature shall adopt a rule that would end the practice of awarding committee chairmanships to Democrats”; now
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Republican Party of Texas hereby declares its support of the legislative priority regarding ending the practice of granting chairmanships of legislative committees to Democrat members of the Texas Legislature, beginning with the 88th Texas Legislature; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Republican Party of Texas shall send this resolution to the Governor of Texas, the Lieutenant Governor of Texas, each Republican State Representative, and the Speaker of the Texas House, requesting an acknowledgement of receipt, a positive declaration of support of this legislative priority, and an articulation of actions the elected official plans to take during the next session regarding this legislative priority.
