Dear Fellow Republican,
May brought with it the end of Session, productive meetings, and an emphasis on building and strengthening relationships with many who have an interest in defending Texas in 2020. I met with the Republican National Committee, Texas’ Republican Congressional delegation, Republican state legislators, donors, grassroots activists, clubs, and many more.
At the beginning of the month, I traveled to Washington D.C. to meet with the Republican National Committee and discuss the importance of delivering Texas’ crucial 38 electoral votes in the presidential election next year. While there, I had the opportunity to meet with our Republican Congressional delegation to determine how we could best work together after the Primary to win important races in Texas. We had a great discussion and came to one overwhelming conclusion – we must all work together to win in 2020. We cannot underestimate the drive of Texas and national Democrats to turn our great state blue. If we do not defend Texas in 2020 we might not see a Republican in the White House for years to come. That is why we are working hard now to engage Republicans and to prepare for the battles to come.
As you know, May marked the end of the 86th Legislative Session. Due to this, I spent countless hours at the Capitol meeting with Republican legislators and testifying on bills. Thank you to Senators Charles Perry, Larry Taylor, and Dawn Buckingham as well as Representatives Bill Zedler, Stan Lambert, Terry Wilson, and Chris Paddie for taking the time to meet with me in the final month of Session when each and every minute counts.
Special thanks to the State Republican Executive Committee members who continued to work hard on all of our Legislative Priorities right until the end of the session. As a result, record-setting reduction in property taxes, protection of religious liberty for businesses and their owners, an end to state and local taxes being used to fund Planned Parenthood, critical reporting on taxpayer-funded lobbying efforts and costs, and the passage of the ability to carry a firearm during a declared emergency were just a few of the highlights to come from this Session. We will have more on this at our SREC meeting this coming weekend in Austin where we welcome House Republican Caucus Chairman, Dustin Burrows.
We look forward to working hard to hold our majorities and elect Republicans in 2020 with an eye toward redistricting and making greater strides toward our goals in 2021!
I had the good fortune to be able to meet and speak with numerous Republican clubs across Texas during the month – from the Robson Ranch Republican Club, Hood County Republican Club, North East Tarrant Tea Party, Greater Katy Area Republicans, Fort Bend Republican Women’s Club, and more! These meetings were an incredible reminder to me of the importance of engaging ALL Republicans across the entire state – which is exactly what we intend to do in 2020! Counties like Collin are already practicing doing so during the city council and school board elections. I had the pleasure of joining in on their block walking effort and look forward to seeing their victories in those important runoff races on June 8.

May also, of course, holds Memorial Day – a day when we remember those who have paid the ultimate price on behalf of each and every American. May these men and women forever be remembered for their sacrifice in defense of our liberty. Their debt can never truly be repaid, but we can work to ensure every Texan, and American, has the best opportunity to pursue a brighter future. That is what we will continue to fight for each and every day.
May ended as it had begun, with meetings in Washington D.C., where I participated in an in-depth Republican National Committee training in preparation for the 2020 election. We covered critical communications, data, organization, staffing, and fundraising activities and best practices.
Throughout this month’s efforts I focused on building and strengthening relationships to ensure the cooperation and teamwork necessary to accomplish what we must in 2020. I look forward to working with each and every one of you as we march toward victory!
Today marks the two-year anniversary of my election as the Chairman of the Republican Party. During these past two years the Party has made meaningful improvements in both financial position and policy goals. There remains much more still to do, but I know that together Texas Republicans can accomplish what we must to continue to build on the successes we have had and keep Texas the beacon of freedom we know it must remain.
