Update from Chairman Dickey, January 2020

Dear Fellow Texas Republicans,

November 2020 brings the biggest challenge the Republican Party of Texas (RPT) has faced since flipping the Texas House in 2002. In 2019 we set the stage – building the team, and raising and responsibly managing the funds – needed for this effort. So we were ready to kick off 2020 with a busy, and impactful, month.

We had two strong Republicans in Special Election Runoffs in House District 28 and 148. We are thankful to both Gary Gates and Luis LaRotta for their hard work in defending our principles. Both candidates and their campaigns were focused throughout the Special Election and worked diligently to connect with voters.

Congratulations to Gary Gates for being elected as State Representative in HD 28. He worked very hard as a candidate, and that was absolutely crucial in his election. This was also the first big test of the unprecedented cooperation and coordination we have set as the model for our 2020 campaign efforts. If the Democrats could have won, or even reduced the margin of victory from the 8% we won by in 2018 substantially, they’d have gotten momentum and additional financial support. Instead, our efforts worked flawlessly, volunteers and staff from across the state traveled to Fort Bend County to assist, and we doubled our victory to a 16% margin.

In January, RPT also rolled out the “Vision 2020” State Convention website. The State Convention will be held in Houston at the George R. Brown Convention Center on May 14th-16th. Temporary Committees will meet May 11th-13th. Attending the Convention is an exciting way to shape the future of the Party by electing leadership and determining the rules and platform for the next two years. I encourage each of you to visit our website to learn more and be a delegate!
