U.S. Representative Mac Thornberry Announces He Will Not Seek Re-Election in 2020

CLARENDON, TX – U.S. Representative Mac Thornberry served the people of Congressional District 13 ably and with great commitment. First elected in 1994, he defeated Democrat Bill Sarpalius. He was the first Texan from either party to become Chair of the House Armed Forces Committee where he fought hard for our men and women in uniform. He currently serves as the Dean of the Texas Republican Delegation. His experience and pragmatic voice will be missed but we wish him the very best on the next chapter of his life.

Republican Party of Texas Chairman James Dickey commented:

“Congressman Thornberry served the people of Texas’ 13th Congressional District with aptitude and a constituent-driven focus during his 25 years in Congress. While Congressman Thornberry’s experience and leadership will be missed in Congress, we look forward to his involvement in electing another qualified Republican to represent CD-13. We will work with him, the County Party, and State Republican Executive Committee to find a qualified, conservative candidate to run for the district in 2020. We will continue to fight to keep Texas red in 2020 and beyond.”
