Texas Leaders Meet With El Paso Elected Officials Following the Mass Shooting

EL PASO, TX – Today, Senator John Cornyn, Senator Ted Cruz, Governor Greg Abbott, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, and Speaker Dennis Bonnen travelled to El Paso to meet with local elected officials following the horrific shooting that occurred last Saturday. During the meeting, Governor Abbott announced that over $5.5 million in financial assistance will be provided by the state of Texas for law enforcement agencies and the El Paso community. The financial assistance will be provided through the Criminal Justice Division of the Governor’s Public Safety Office.

Republican Party of Texas Chairman James Dickey commented:

“All of Texas is heartbroken because of the heinous actions of an individual who senselessly took the lives of so many in El Paso. In Texas, we stand against any form of racism and bigotry and must seek to root out evil and hatred wherever it may be. Texans, and all Americans, must come together during this difficult time.

“Our state leadership has called for Texans to unite and support the El Paso Community. They are hurting right now and we are thankful to Senator Cornyn, Senator Cruz, Governor Abbott, Lieutenant Governor Patrick, Speaker Bonnen, and El Paso elected officials for coming together to help El Paso and all of us begin to heal.”
