RPT Chairman James Dickey Calls for Chair Resignations Over Racially Charged Social Media Posts

RPT CHAIRMAN JAMES DICKEY CALLS
FOR CHAIR RESIGNATIONS OVER RACIALLY CHARGED SOCIAL MEDIA POSTS

Republican Party of Texas Chairman James Dickey made the following statement this afternoon:

“Americans nationwide and in Texas were shocked and grieved over the tragic injustice of George Floyd’s death. As a political party organized in Texas by African-Americans over 150 years ago, the Republican Party of Texas continues to fight for our founding principle of equality under the law.

“When I was informed about posts on social media by County Chairs in Bexar, Nueces, Comal, and Harrison Counties and the Chair-Elect in Harris County that are not representative of our Party or our principles, I called each one asking them to resign their positions (in the case of the Chair-Elect, it is a matter of him refusing to accept the position as he is not yet officially in office).

“Their actions do not reflect the Republican Party of Texas’ history, values, members, or principles. We connect with people through and because of our values, and our leaders must exemplify them.”
