Governor Greg Abbott Announces His Intention to Appoint Justice Jane Bland to the Texas Supreme Court to Replace Justice Jeff Brown

AUSTIN, TX – Today, Governor Greg Abbott announced that he intends to appoint former Justice Jane Bland to the Texas Supreme Court after the official resignation of Justice Jeff Brown, who is awaiting confirmation of his federal appointment to the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas.

Republican Party of Texas Chairman James Dickey commented:

“Governor Greg Abbott has made an exceptional selection with Justice Jane Bland to replace Justice Jeff Brown. Her judicial pedigree is irrefutable and her temperament on the bench is precisely suited for the heavy caseload and weighty issues that come before the Texas Supreme Court. She is widely respected by her peers and was an outstanding jurist during her tenure on the Court of Appeals, as evidenced by her excellent results in judicial preference polls over the years. Justice Bland will be a wonderful addition to the Texas Supreme Court and we look forward to working with her in this new capacity.”
