Austin, TX, Release: March 1, 2022 — For Immediate Release

Newly-selected Maverick County Republican Chair Sandy Sassano and the Republican Party of Texas successfully identified and stopped unlawful election activity in the ongoing Joint Primary Election after early voters presenting to the polls were denied Republican ballots and forced into the Democrat primary. In one notable instance, a Republican candidate was initially denied access to a Republican ballot and instead offered a Democrat ballot on the purported grounds there were no Republicans running for office. Maverick County has 8 Republican candidates in the March 1st primary, a record high for the county.

Sassano reported the issues to the Republican Party of Texas through its “Protect the Vote” election integrity program. After investigating and confirming the claims, the Texas GOP demanded the Maverick County election administrator address this unlawful activity, which it subsequently corrected. The following day, 105 votes for Republican candidates were recorded.

Matt Rinaldi, Chairman of the Republican Party of Texas said “I commend the Maverick County Republican Party for their vigilance and am pleased that our election integrity program is seeing early success rooting out election law violations and ensuring confidence in our elections.”

If you suspect a violation of election law is occurring, report it to the Republican Party of Texas “Protect the Vote” hotline at 512-991-0117.
