Austin, TX, Release: August 5, 2021 — For Immediate Release

Gov. Greg Abbott recently released the call for a second special session of the Texas Legislature to begin Saturday August 7, just hours after the first special session expired. This second special session comes after Texas House Democrats fled the state leaving the first session in a stalemate.

Texas Republican Party Chairman Matt Rinaldi issued the following statement:

“Republicans are wasting no time in getting the Texas Legislature back to work and will continue special sessions until Democrats return. There is no endgame for Texas House Democrats. They need to say goodbye to D.C., Portugal, and the Caribbean, wherever they may be, come back to Texas, and do their jobs.”
