Update from Chairman Dickey, April 2020

Friends,

I hope you and your family are staying safe and healthy during these challenging times. It has been a busy month at the Republican Party of Texas (RPT) as we navigate these unprecedented times and find solutions to continue our necessary business while protecting the health and safety of all Texans.

On Saturday, April 4 the State Republican Executive Committee (SREC) met electronically to address two key issues that directly affect our grassroots – the State Convention and National Convention delegate allocation. During the online meeting, the SREC approved moving the State Convention in Houston from May 14-16 to July 16-18 and to allocate our 44 at-large delegates using the statewide allocation method under RPT Rules, so as not to jeopardize our delegation strength to the National Convention. With this change, all Texas delegates were secured for President Trump. Both of these votes will be ratified at an in-person meeting that will be held Saturday, May 2nd, 2020. It is no small feat to move the dates of our Convention and I am thrilled to share that our State Convention dates were changed with no loss of space and with no additional cost to delegates or the RPT!

Last month, I shared that the RPT reignited #RPTServes to help our fellow Texans during this challenging time. During the last week of April we held #RPTServes Volunteer Week. Thank you to everyone that participated in the effort to help our neighbors. You can still get involved with #RPTServes by joining our Facebook Group or find ideas on our website.

The RPT held Tele-Town Halls with several of our Statewide Elected Officials to provide critical updates on their Coronavirus response. Thank you to Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, Attorney General Ken Paxton, and Railroad Commission Chairman Wayne Christian for joining us! If you missed the Town Hall meetings, you can listen to the highlights below. We will continue to host these important Tele-Town Halls to be sure you are informed about the greatest challenges facing Texas and how our Republican representatives are rising to meet these challenges.

While my travels around the state to visit with Republican clubs and groups have come to a halt, I have been excited to spend time and share updates with Texas Republicans through Virtual Town Hall meetings. We are still working tirelessly to prepare for victories from the White House to the Courthouse in November.    In April, I also joined the Texas Federation of College Republicans for a Virtual Town Hall. The RPT is executing on our plan to ensure victory and to keep Texas red. Keep an eye out to RPT’s social media channels and emails for information on future Virtual Town Hall meetings.

On Saturday, April 25th, I was fortunate to attend and speak at the “Line in the Sand” rally hosted by This Is Texas Freedom Force at the hallowed ground of Texas Independence – the Alamo. We had a great crowd in attendance who showed their support for the protection of our beloved Alamo and Alamo Cenotaph. In attendance with me was RPT Vice-Chairwoman Alma Jackson to show our support!

We have made the necessary adjustment from in-person training to phone banking and online training sessions for our field staff. We will continue to work tirelessly to hit our milestones as we continue to work towards victory in November. Our field staff and volunteers have made over 100,000 calls this month alone. To help us keep Texas red, please text VEP to 72000 now and we’ll get you plugged in.

Also, if you want to be in the loop on news about your Texas Republican Party and elected officials, text TXNEWS to 72000 and you’ll get a weekday morning email with the latest stories that mention our Texas and U.S. House and Senate members plus our statewide elected officials.
The stakes could not be higher this year, but we have proven that our plan is working and as long as everyone does their part, we will continue to win in Texas and leave an even brighter future than the one we inherited. We are not tired of winning yet!
Sincerely,
