Austin, TX, Release: October 1, 2021 — For Immediate Release

Yesterday, in response to calls from the grassroots, Governor Greg Abbott added a new item to the 3rd Special Session Call to fix election integrity penalties. Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick quickly thanked the Governor for adding it to call and said the Senate would take it up next week. House Speaker Dade Phelan however, resisted the new item and refused to bring it up in the House.

Texas Republican Party Chairman Matt Rinaldi released the following statement: “Governor Abbott and Lieutenant Governor Patrick have shown they are committed to fixing this error in SB1. Speaker Phelan has indicated he will block any attempt to fix SB1. We therefore ask Governor Abbott to keep calling Special Sessions until the Speaker allows the House to fix this error.”
